Bring a little Low German into the mix and De(e)rnhelm would mean Girl-Helm. 🙂
PS: Having grown up in a country with compulsory military service I’ve always had a hard time relating to riding out to war in terms of heroism, freedom and self-actualisation; rather, the first thing on my mind was the plain fact that, based on your gender, you could get carted off into unfreedom against your will… but I can of course empathise with Éowyn’s yearning and her frustration at feeling (or being) bound to an ill-fitting role.
LIstened to all the episodes — makes me want to read LOTR in the original Kling… English. Thank you for a wonderful podcast!
